News Update From Ft. McPherson - October 15, 2001

North Pole Missionary Chapel

Since we have many friends in Alaska, and Fairbanks is the closest large town to shop in, we made a trip over to Alaska. This is the North Pole Missionary Chapel where we attended while there, and we stayed at Mission House, which is just a short walk through the trees. The church is pastored by Rev. Duane Newton. Our pickup truck was completely full coming home with plumbing supplies donated by Slayden Plumbing, a wood cook stove donated by the Duane McNutt family, many boxes of canned fruit & etc. donated by Mr. & Mrs. Arnold Huffman, winter clothes we bought, and other things. We wondered about the increased border security. Well, the border check point on the "Top of the World Highway" was closed for the season. The road will get snowed in and isn't keep open in the winter. We drove for a long way into Alaska before we found a customs agent to clear us.
