Today we were up early and headed off to Karen's doctor appointment in Three Hills. Three Hills is about a three hour drive from home. Picked up a fellow from one of the church families to give him a ride as far as Rocky. Got to Three Hills and spent the day doing medical stuff, some bank business, and headed back to Rocky. Karen saw our daughter Jenny at work (Jenny lives in Three Hills). Stopped for groceries in the town of Olds and on to Rocky. From Rocky Karen headed for Edmonton to spend tomorrow with our daughter Melany (Muffy) and I headed back to the Reserve to hold the fort down, and got home just before 8:00. I spent a long time on the phone with our son David. I had been working with him on some of his banking business. David is 20 now and has had a steady job for 4 years in Calgary. He is becoming mature and responsible and learning great lessons concerning his finances and taking responsibility.

Since we don't have a lot to write about today, I'll describe my daily ritual involving exercises and practice sessions. Every day I do 100 pushups and 100 situps. I do 10 or 20 at a time until I get 100 each. I also get in at least one hour on the exercise bike. That's very boring so I read or watch some kind of a DVD such as a war documentary or old corny cowboy show or some such while I'm on the bike. We don't have tv so we don't have the depressing influence of that to deal with. And then I try to get in a good practice session on the violin. If I miss out on the exercise I have to make up for it the next day or so as I keep a record and hold myself to it. When a person is younger you can get by without a lot of exercise, but as you get older it is essential to exercise or you stiffen up and weaken quickly. Sometimes we have to do some things that are quite physical, expecially in our Arctic outreach, so I have to try to keep in shape a little bit or we could never do what we do.
