Our challenge every Sunday is to have volunteers to help with the Sunday School. Without helpers we are limited as to how many children we can handle in Sunday School classes. This Sunday in the picture below we had a number of local helpers. Available staff varies from week to week and often we aren't sure ahead of time who will be available.
Below, Karen's class poses for a picture.
This beautiful star quilt was made by our Lakota church family on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, for an elder in the mission here at Sunchild.
This lady in our mission, lost two family members about a half year apart in 2021. We finally were able to get these crosses made for their graves.
We are far enough north that on the longest day, June 21st, the north part of the sky has light all night long. This picture was taken about 12:30 at night, which was the darkest part of the night, looking straight north.
Janelle has been a part of our mission since she was a young girl. Here she is making bannock, a type of fry bread, for a church gathering. Every Sunday, Jannelle writes down my entire message while I'm preaching and adds her own commentary to it, and then at the end of the service summarizes the message in her own words! This is a unique way of doing the services for sure, that I've never seen done anywhere. We have a regular youth group event, and this one took place a few weeks ago before our first snow. We had volunteer help from town to help.
About 10 years ago I attended a couple luthier workshops in California to learn how to make violins. I couldn't keep up with it because it was too far away. Recently a new luthiers school opened up here in Alberta, west of Calgary at Bragg Creek. The school is allowing me to attended on a 'Come as I can' basis, and I've been able to spend a few weeks there recently. This is me in the middle, between some of the students and the teacher.
